 K–8th Grade Program Overview

At Waymark Academy learning continues with wonder, purpose, and a deep connection to God’s creation. Our K–8th grade program provides a Christian, nature-based education that follows the Waymark Academy school calendar and integrates both classroom learning and rich outdoor experiences. We believe children thrive when they are known, challenged, and supported as whole individuals - spiritually, academically, socially, and emotionally.

A Day at Waymark

Mornings are devoted to traditional academic blocks grouped by ability rather than grade level. This structure allows each student to learn at a pace that is appropriately challenging, encourages mastery, and supports a growth mindset. Core subjects include Bible, reading, writing, spelling, social studies, math, science, and history - are taught through a blend of classical foundations, Charlotte Mason influences, and hands-on learning that keeps students engaged and inspired.

Depending on the day, afternoons shift into thematic, group projects, forest school, STEAM or real-life skills learning environments, where students apply classroom knowledge through exploration, collaboration, critical thinking, and hands-on discovery. These experiences may be theme-based, connected to current units of study, or focused on individual God-centered personal goals that help students develop character, stewardship, and resilience.

Our approach honors the whole child and encourages curiosity, creativity, leadership, and a strong sense of community. By blending rigorous academics with nature immersion, meaningful relationships, and faith-filled experiences, Waymark Academy equips students with the skills, confidence, and Christ-centered foundation they need to thrive in school and in life.

9th-12th Program Overview

Our 9-12th grade is online for the 2026-27 school year. Looking forward, we plan to add these grades in person at the school in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at information@waymarkacademy.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

NC Opportunity Scholarship helps children K-12th pay for private school. Last year all the children that applied were accepted and funded. The amount varies - find more information online!

We also take special forces and Folds of Honor and glady accept others!

We have staggered drop off and pick up depending on the grade and this ranges from 8AM to 8:30AM and 1:35PM to 2:35PM.

We follow our private school calendar.

Our hybrid students have the option to come to school 2 days, Tuesday and Thursday and school at home 3, or attend 3 days Monday, Wednesday and Friday and school at home 2 days.

Relax uniforms are required each day and items can be found on Lands End. In addition, we allow like items as long as they are not any different than the items described in our uniform policy. Please reach out to the school for more information.

Bogs rain boots are required and will stay at school.

All rain-hiking gear will be rented yearly from the school and kept at school. Layers to keep warm must be brought or worn from home.

Yes, younger children cannot be out in extreme heat or cold, however older children, with the proper gear, usually can tolerate the temperatures better. We go out in rain or snow too!

TBD - We plan to have before and after school care for K-8 for the 2026-27 school year.

Parents provide a lunch and snack from home. In addition, students bring two refillable water bottles.

All children must be fever, vomit, diarrhea free for at least 48 hours and fully ready to learn and play. In addition, all other symptoms must be gone except for an occasional cough or nose wipe. When the children are outside symptoms usually flare up and it can be very uncomfortable for them.

In the younger years, we use positive methods of discipline, and it is usually individualized by the child as we get to know them and what works best. Often this includes redirection, possibly sitting out, and if a child is not listening multiple times (in the forest this can be very dangerous) or hurting a friend or teacher, the child would need to go home for the day. For the older children we have a demerit system.
