Rockfish Country Kids preschool

Traditional half day Preschool Program

Welcome!

At Rockfish Country Kids Preschool, we blend a traditional preschool model with a nature-based, Christian, whole-child philosophy - beautifully influenced by Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Charlotte Mason, and Waldorf approaches. Our environment is relaxed but educational, allowing children to learn at their own pace through meaningful play, exploration, and hands-on experiences both indoors and outdoors. We carefully select curriculum, and often nature as our curriculum, manipulatives, and activities that nurture curiosity, confidence, independence, and joy. Our goal is to provide a secure, loving, Christ-centered space that is developmentally appropriate and, most importantly, FUN while meeting ECE standards.

Offering preschool for ages 1-5, our preschool program is rooted in a play-based, nature-inspired, Christian approach that allows children to explore, create, and grow through hands-on experiences. We believe young children learn best through play, discovery, and relationships - guided by caring teachers who nurture curiosity, confidence, and a love for God’s creation. Each day is an opportunity to plant seeds of faith, kindness, and joyful learning that will flourish for years to come.

Some families choose a unique blended experience, combining our traditional RCK preschool on certain days with our Nature School or Forest School programs on others. This hybrid approach allows children to enjoy meaningful time outdoors exploring God’s creation while developing foundational academic, social, and spiritual skills.

Yes, younger children cannot be out in extreme heat or cold, however older children, with the proper gear, usually can tolerate the temperatures better. We go out in rain or snow too!

Not for preschoolers as we are not a daycare so can not provide care for preschool age more than the morning.

All children must be fever, vomit, diarrhea free for at least 48 hours for this program and ready to fully learn and play. In addition, all other symptoms must be gone except for an occasional cough or nose wipe. When the children are outside symptoms usually flare up and it can be very uncomfortable for the children.

In the younger years, we use positive methods of discipline, and it is usually individualized the child as we get to know them and what works best. Often this includes redirection, possibly sitting out, and if a child is not listening multiple times (in the forest this can be very dangerous) or hurting a friend or teacher, the child would need to go home for the day.
